PAST

My first Stars game was on March 14, 2010, during our year without hockey in Oklahoma City. My brother wanted to have his sweet sixteen birthday at a hockey game, just like his big sister. So, in hockey absence in OKC, we drove to Dallas and watched the Stars play the Colorado Avalanche. My brother is a Colorado fan, for some weird reason (just kidding).
This being our first in-person Stars game, I had my Mike Modano jersey on and was extremely excited. I took as many pictures as I could and the Avalanche beat the Stars 5-3. Even though the Stars lost, it was still wonderful and exciting.
Mostly, I was able to watch the Stars play on TV. It is not the same, watching hockey on TV as it is being in the arena for many reason; One, it is not as exciting. Two, the crowd cheering and chanting adds to the experience and you don’t hear it loud enough on TV. Three, at the games you smell popcorn, roasted peanuts, burger, hot dogs, beer, and all the other concession stand amenities. Four, the sounds; of the skates on the ice, slap shots, and hits.
Unfortunately, I was never able to see Mike Modano play in-person, but he remained my favorite Star, regardless. The funny thing is, when I picked Modano, it was because of his number 9. I was a young kid and didn’t know that Modano was a super star player. My favorite play for the OKC Blazers was #8 Marty Standish. Modano’s #9 was the closest on the Stars to #8 at the time and nine is my brothers lucky number. So, my brother approved of my liking of Modano.
Now, I didn’t necessarily mean to continue with the #9 theme, but when I found my current favorite Dallas Star, I mistook him for Modano by the way he skates. I am wondering if anyone can guess who I am talking about. His number has a 9 in it.
Well, I’ll introduce you to him in my next post.
