Hockey In My Years: The Barons

So, after at least 50+ games, we have an entire year without hockey. Then in the fall of 2010, the Oklahoma City Barons were born to the American Hockey League. I had just began college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, but I wanted to go to opening night. Unfortunately, I was sick with bronchitis and a sinus infection. So my first Barons game didn’t come until December, 18, 2010.

I din’t get to attend as many games as I would have liked, but I did when I could and had to have a jersey. This time however, I wanted my name on it.

The Barons stay was short in OKC, for they were only here 5 seasons. There are many rumors as to why Edmonton did not renew their contract with Oklahoma City, but regardless of the reason, once again we were without hockey in Oklahoma City after the spring of 2015.

I will never forget the night I won tickets to a Barons game, and I had a chance to win a Dodge Dart with the Barons logo on it. I went to the game by myself, after I got off work. I parked at the Bass Pro Shop and walked to the Cox Center. I ended up making it to the 2nd round, but didn’t win the car. Then I realized I had locked my keys in my truck and had to wait for my brother to bring the spare key.

By the spring of 2015, I had my Bachelor of Art in Strategic Communications, a full time job, but no hockey. I finally had the channels to watch the Dallas Stars again. So, I began a renewed infatuation with the Stars and one of their players who was still new to the team.
